2 Dogs and a Cat.
James 4:7
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
While watching my friends dog, Daphne, I saw something happen which was quite humorous. I have a cat named Boots, and a dog named Termite (the name is another story in itself). Termite and Boots have resided together for several years in our house. There isn’t any fighting, (unless one tries to take the others food), they get along well, and will both snuggle up on my lap together.
Therefore, I wasn’t expecting a reaction to the cat when I brought Daphne to our house. I got out of the car, put Daphne on her leash, and started walking her to the house. Up the porch we went…….and there Boots was! Seeing the strange dog, His back arched, hair stuck straight up, and I heard the biggest hissing noise I have ever heard. Daphne responded in kind, jerking the leash out of my hands and barking loudly. Whoosh…………….Boots ran off faster than lightning, followed by Daphne, who in turn was followed by Termite. It was quite a sight! Off the porch, around the house, and into the back yard. Boots didn’t come back around for quite a few hours. Daphne and Termite promptly returned to the porch, waiting for whatever was to come next.
Seeing Boots run away as fast as he did. reminded me of the scripture verse James 4:7. I could envision Satan running away from us even faster than Boots ran from the tormenting dogs. As believers, we need to be submitting our lives to God. When we do, we will then be able to keep our focus on what God wants. When things come along that are “not quite right”, we will be able to recognize that these are not from God. We then can say, “no, this is NOT from God. I am submitting this to you right now, Jesus! I refuse to let Satan have the victory over this. I am leaving it in your hands, Jesus.” I can just picture Satan running from us, as Boots ran from the dogs.
Thank You, Jesus, for being our Victory over Satan! Thank You that we don’t have to face the temptations that Satan throws our way on our own, but with You. Thank You, that as we walk in Your wisdom, discernment, and light, we are more easily able to recognize the lies and deceit that Satan is trying to use against us. Help us to submit ourselves to You, Lord, and to resist the devil. We want him to flee from us as quickly as Boots fled from Daphne!
